Rogozhskoye grew out of the 1771 plague quarantine and became the spiritual and burial centre of Moscow’s Old Believer community. The cemetery sits within the Rogozhskaya Sloboda ensemble, alongside its churches, and the merchant dynasties who funded much of pre-revolutionary Moscow industry are buried here.
It is a place with its own customs, and we work here on the community’s terms rather than applying a standard service.
What grave care at Rogozhskoye actually involves
Monuments include carved stone crosses and merchant family memorials of considerable age and value. All cleaning is by hand with neutral products; nothing structural is touched without the administration’s agreement.
Old Believer practice differs in what is appropriate at a grave. We ask the family what they want rather than assuming, and where we do not know, we do less rather than more.
High-resolution photographs of inscriptions are a significant part of what we deliver here: for descendants of merchant families researching their history, the stone is a primary source.
Services and prices at Rogozhskoye
- Grave search by name — from ₽1,500 (about $17). Needed whenever the plot number has been lost.
- Standard clean-up — litter and old wreaths removed, weeding and grass cutting, headstone and fence washed, mound levelled. From ₽3,000 (about $34).
- Headstone cleaning — from ₽4,500 (about $50), gentle products only.
- Seasonal package — four scheduled visits a year with a photo report after each, ₽17,000 (about $135).
- Engraving — adding a name and dates to an existing monument, or restoring worn lettering. Layout sent for your approval before anything is cut.
- Monuments and granite complexes — a new headstone, plinth, kerb and paving, or resetting a monument that has started to lean. Quoted after we measure and photograph the plot.

Do you work at Old Believer graves?
Yes, following the family’s instructions and the community’s rules. If something you have asked for is not appropriate here, we tell you rather than quietly doing it anyway.
Can you photograph a family memorial in detail?
Yes — the full monument and each face of the inscription, at high resolution.
Is restoration of an old carved stone possible?
Cleaning, yes. Anything beyond that at a heritage monument needs permission and specialist work; we assess it and give you an honest answer.

We agree a payment method that works for your country when the order is confirmed, including payment through relatives in Russia, and payment is due after the photo report.
