Who orders a grave search

Most requests come from families who emigrated decades ago. A grandparent was buried in Moscow in the 1970s or 1980s, the relatives who used to visit the grave have passed away or left the country, and no one remembers the section or the row — sometimes not even the cemetery. Others are researching family history and want to confirm where an ancestor is buried before planning a visit to Russia.

In both cases the task is the same: turn a name and a rough year into a confirmed plot you can see with your own eyes — without flying to Moscow to stand in line at a cemetery office.

Via Telegram or WhatsApp: the full name of the deceased, the year of death if known, the cemetery if the family remembers it, and any other clues — neighbouring headstones, the year of the last visit.

We assess the chances
Within a short time we come back to you with an honest estimate: how likely the grave is to be found, how many days it will take, and the final price. If the chances are low — for example, the cemetery is unknown and the burial is very old — we say so before you pay anything.

Search on site
We visit the cemetery and work with the administration and its records. Where there is an electronic register, the plot is found in 15–30 minutes; older cemeteries keep paper ledgers, which can take several hours. When records fall short, we talk to the caretakers and walk the rows in the likely section.

Photos and coordinates
Once the grave is found, we photograph the plot from several angles — including the name plate close up and the path from the entrance — record a short walk-up video, and fix the GPS coordinates. Everything is sent to your Telegram or WhatsApp.

We describe the current state of the plot: overgrowth, the headstone, the fence — and whether it needs care.

If we cannot locate the burial, we return 100% of the payment within three days. No questions, no conditions.

After the grave is found

A plot that no one has visited for twenty years usually needs work: overgrowth, a darkened headstone, a rusting fence. Once the grave is located, we can take care of it on the same terms as for any other client — a one-time cleaning from ₽3,000 (~$35), a deep clean-up of a neglected plot for ₽5,000–10,000, headstone cleaning from ₽2,000, fence repainting with rust removal for ₽10,000–20,000, or a seasonal package of four visits a year from ₽12,000/year. If you order cleaning together with the search, the search itself is free — you pay only for the cleaning.

The scope and the quote are fixed before any work begins, and every visit ends with a before/after photo report. For a specific date — a birthday or a memorial day — send the request 5–7 days in advance; before Radonitsa and Trinity Sunday, two weeks ahead.

FAQ

What information do you need to find a grave?

The full name of the deceased at the time of death is essential — for women this may be a maiden name. The year of death or burial and the name of the cemetery help a great deal, but are not strictly required. The more details you can recall, the faster the search.

What if you cannot find the grave?

If we cannot locate the burial, we refund your payment in full within three days — no questions, no conditions. In practice a grave usually cannot be found only when the cemetery is very old and part of its records has been lost, or when the person was buried under a different surname.

How long does the search take?

Usually 1–3 working days from the moment we have your details. At cemeteries with electronic records the plot is often located in 15–30 minutes on site; older cemeteries with paper ledgers can take several hours.

How do I pay for the search from abroad?

We agree on a payment method that works for your country when confirming the order — several options are available, including payment via relatives in Russia. Payment is due after you receive the photo report.
