Glass monuments and glass portraits in Russia
Everything a granite monument can carry in the way of an image is grey. Engraving on stone is a line drawing — skilled, often beautiful, but monochrome by nature. Glass is the one material where a full-colour photograph can stand on the grave at the size of the monument itself.
The part that matters is not the colour but how it is fixed. Ceramic pigments are printed onto tempered glass and then fired at 630–650 °C, at which point they fuse into the glass and stop being a coating at all. That image lasts 30–50 years without fading.
Three technologies that look identical in year one
This is the thing to check before ordering glass anywhere, from us or from anyone else. Fired ceramic printing lasts 30–50 years. UV printing on glass lasts around 10. Dye sublimation lasts about 2. In the first year all three look the same, and the price difference is not large enough to make the choice obvious.
We work only with fired ceramic, and we write the technology into the quote. If a supplier will not state the firing temperature in writing, that answer is itself the answer.
The glass is tempered. That matters twice over: it survives frost and temperature swings without cracking, and if it is ever broken it collapses into blunt granules rather than blades.
What can be made from glass
A full stele — the monument itself, from 800×400 mm up to 1500×600 mm, in thicknesses from 8 to 34 mm. Thin glass reads as light and modern; thick glass has a visible edge and a depth closer to stone.
A portrait panel, mounted on a stand or set into an existing granite monument. This is the common choice when the monument already stands and the family wants a colour photograph added to it.
Flower-bed fronts, restoration panels laid over a worn stone, and glass fencing. Metal parts — frames, stands, clamps — are made by the same production in black steel or stainless, so the glass and its frame arrive as one set and fit without adjustment on site.

Where glass is the wrong answer
Glass breaks. On a busy cemetery, on a plot right beside a path, or anywhere vandalism has already happened, granite is the honest recommendation and we give it before you pay rather than after.
Glass also shows water marks after rain and thaw more than polished granite does. It looks its best when it is washed — at least once a season. If nobody is in Russia to do that, factor seasonal care into the decision from the start; that is exactly the service we exist for.
And it is not a way to save money: glass costs about what granite costs. People choose it for the colour image, not for the price.
Ordering from another country
Send the photograph and the details of the burial. A retoucher prepares the image, you receive a layout showing exactly how it will look at the chosen size, and nothing is printed until you approve it — fired ceramic cannot be corrected afterwards.
Production is in the Moscow region, so the glass does not travel across the country and the risk of breakage in transit is low. Installation is quoted separately, as it is for granite, and the season for ground work runs May to October.
You receive a photo report of the finished monument in place. Payment is due after you have it, and we agree a method that works for your country when the order is confirmed.

Questions we are asked
How long does the image really last?
The pigments are fired into the glass at 630–650 °C and become part of it — 30–50 years without fading. UV printing gives about 10 years and sublimation about 2, and in the first year the three are indistinguishable. Ask any supplier for the firing temperature in writing.
Will Russian winters damage it?
Tempered glass handles frost and temperature swings without cracking. The real inconvenience is cosmetic: water marks show more than on polished granite, so a glass monument wants washing at least once a season.
Can a glass portrait be added to a monument that already stands?
Yes, and it is one of the most common orders. The panel is made to fit the free area of the existing stone and mounted with a stainless clamp or a frame. We photograph and measure the monument first.
Is it cheaper than granite?
No, it costs roughly the same. The reason to choose it is a full-colour photograph at the size of the monument, which no engraving on stone can produce.
What if the photograph we have is old and damaged?
That is normal and usually workable. Photograph the print on a phone in daylight without flash, send it, and a retoucher prepares it. You see the layout before anything is printed, and if the photograph genuinely will not carry, we say so at that stage rather than after.
